St Paul’s University History
St. Paul’s University is the only university with a long history that can be traced back to the late 19th century. The University can not be what it is today without the Kenyan missionaries who arrived along the Kenyan coast ( Frere Town) in 1888.
The university was started by the Church Missionary Society (CMS), which offered various divinity classes to freed slaves, aiming to provide practical skills and Christian leadership training.
By 1930, the missionaries spread in Kenya, leading to the opening of SPU’s main campus in Limuru (Kiambu County). In 1989, St Paul was now formally registered as a Private university in Kenya by the Commission for Higher Education, and in 2007, the university was awarded a charter by the government of Kenya
Today, the university has a campus in Limuru (Main), Machakos, Nairobi and Nakuru.
