When it comes to ensuring that workers’ welfare is taken care of in Kenya, it’s the work of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU). Yes, that’s true, but another crucial organization in Play is the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). It’s a state-owned corporation established in 1965, and it acts as a Pension Scheme for every Kenyan who contributes to be guaranteed compensation upon retirement.
But beyond what defines NSSF to be what we know it today, there are people working hard to ensure that all Kenyans receive the necessary services they need, and as they are subject to various Salary scales, a subject that has always spiked interest in how much NSSF employees truly earn in Kenya.
While the salary scale of most employees at the NSSF is not known in the public domain, their salaries are moderate compared to those of many civil servants in Kenya, most influenced by long-term retirement security over high earnings. In this article, we walk you through an overview of NSSF Salary Scales in 2025.
What is the NSSF Salary Structure in 2025?
Like employees in the Public and private sectors, the Salary scale for NSSF employees is also influenced by many factors, including job types and even some level of expertise. However, the Organizational Structure of NSSF determines the salary structure.
In simple words, NSSF is a tripartite organization composed of the Government, workers, and employers, with representation from the board of trustees, the Government, the Federation of Kenya Employers, and the Central Organization of Trade Unions. Those at the top of the hierarchy earn more.
Below is an image that shows the organizational Structure of NSSF:

In addition to the organizational structure, the NSSF salary scale is also determined by the 2023/25 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which introduced an 8% wage increment for existing staff and ensures that no Grade 7 employee at the entry-level earns below Ksh 39,720. This is slightly higher than the Ksh 38,270 the entry-level employees earned in the SRC Job Group K.
To give you a clear overview of NSSF-specific roles and their salaries, below is how much various members earn as of 2025:
Job type | Average Salary |
Driver | 54,000 |
Administrative manager | 53,000 |
Branch manager | 56,000 |
Procurement officer | 79,000 |
Financial accountant | 76,000 |
Intern salary | 26,000 |
Clerical officer | 30000-50000 |
Fingerprints Officer | 54,000 |
Moving a little higher, NSSF’s Grade 8 roles, such as administrative assistants, start at Ksh 33,209. However, these figures remain modest compared to private-sector equivalents. For instance, procurement officers in private firms often earn Ksh 80,000–120,000, far exceeding NSSF’s Ksh 79,000.
