The Kenya Medical Training College, better known as KMTC, is one of the oldest medical colleges in Kenya, having been founded in 1927. Today, the college is a Kenyan government parastatal under the Ministry of Education since its transformation in 1990. The KMTC started with only 4 students on its Nairobi campus, but today, as of 2025, it has more than 50,000 students across its 71 campuses.

Entry Requirements and Application Process

Understanding the courses on offer is one thing, but knowing how to apply for them is another process that requires careful planning from you as a student. Each course offered by the institution has its own set of requirements that you must meet before you apply for that program. So, what are the minimum requirements for KMTC?

Certificateā€“ Minimum of KCSE grade of C- with a relevant combination of subjects
Diplomaā€“ KCSE mean grade of C (or equivalent) with a relevant combination of subjects such as English, Kiswahili, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics
Higher Diplomaā€“ Holders of a basic diploma in relevant fields and at least two years of working experience

Aside from meeting the academic qualifications required during the application process, you must also produce relevant documents such as education certificates, KCSE certificates, national IDs, passports, and many others.

Application Process

So long as you meet the course requirements, the application process is easy, and the good news is that you do not have to physically visit any KMTC offices, as you can do it only on your phone. All this is possible using the KMTC Admissions Portal. Below is the process of applying to Join KMTC:

  • Visit the official KMTC application portal directly via the link:https://admissions.kmtc.ac.ke/public/index.php/login
  • On the top Navigation bar, click on the register link and proceed to create and verify your account. Make sure that the details you provide are accurate and match what is in your Passport, national ID, or education certificates.
  • Now log in to the Portal, go to the left side panel of your admissions dashboard, click on ā€œApplication,ā€ and navigate to ā€ Apply Preservice.ā€
  • Now proceed to fill in the application form, provide all your details, choose your course, and pay the application fee as provided in the portal.
  • When you are done, follow the prompt to submit and wait for KMTCā€™s response. You will either receive a text message or check your email.

KMTC Fee Structure for 2025

Each course offered at the college has various fee structures that students must complete. Well, if you are just joining KMTC College, you will need to clear your tuition fees in order to be admitted. Also, if you are a continuing student, you must all clear your fees on time so that you can sit for end-of-semester exams.

KMTC fee structure is mainly determined by whether a student is sponsored by the government, self-sponsored, or an international student. For example, from the academic calendar starting in 2025, government-sponsored students can expect to pay between 43,200 and 45,950 Kshs in their first year and around 39,000 Kshs in subsequent years.

For self-sponsored students, on the other hand, the fees range between 59,000 and 64,700 Kshs in the first year and 59,000 Kshs thereafter. Lastly, international students are a bit high, ranging from 124,000 to 130,950 Kshs in year one and 124,000 Kshs in the following years.
