What Are KPLC Tokens?
KPLC tokens are the 20-digit numbers that KPLC will send you immediately after you make a token Purchase using M-Pesa. Once a token is used, it cannot be used again to recharge other tokens, and each token is assigned to a unique KPLC prepaid metre number.
Token Purchase is facilitated by a KPLC paybill number, and KPLC has two official numbers: 888880 for prepaid purchase and 888888for Postpaid Customers.
How To Paying KPLC Tokens via M-PESA

Prepaid Meter Payments
KPLC prepaid meters allow Kenyans to buy tokens in advance, and when you have consumed the assigned units, your meter will go 0, and your electricity will be switched off. However, to ensure that your electricity is always on, here is how you can quickly recharge your prepaid Metre:
- Go to the M-PESA menu on your phone
- Select “Lipa na M-Pesa”
- Choose “Pay Bill”

The difference with the prepaid meter is that Postpaid allows you to use electricity without recharging units and receive your electricity bill at the end of the month. Payment steps are similar to the prepaid as we have discussed above, with the difference being in which Paybill number to use:
- Go to the M-PESA menu on your phone
- Select “Pay Bill”
- Enter the KPLC Paybill number 888888 for postpaid bills
- Enter your Kenya Power account number
- Enter the amount you want to pay
- Enter your M-PESA PIN
- Confirm the details and send the payment.
- You will receive a confirmation message from M-PESA
Regardless of your chosen methods, you’ll receive a confirmation message from M-PESA and KPLC after a successful transaction. This message will contain your transaction details and the number of tokens purchased.
Alternative KPLC Token Purchase Methods
Despite M-Pesa being the official method you can use for tokens, there are other methods you can consider. They are:
Using KPLC USSD
- Dial *977# on your Safaricom line.
- Select “Prepaid Services” from the menu that appears.
- Select “Buy Tokens”:
- Enter your KPLC prepaid meter number accurately.
- Enter the Amount you wish to spend on tokens.
- Carefully review the meter number and amount to ensure they are correct.
- Enter your M-PESA PIN to authorize the transaction.
- You’ll receive an SMS confirmation with your token details.
Using Equitel
1. Select Eazzy Pay from your Equitel menu
2. Select Pay Bill from Eazzy Pay.
Choose the bank account number to pay from
Select business number – KPLC Bills (Post Paid)
3. Enter your new Kenya Power meter number
4. Enter the amount you wish to pay.
5. Enter your Equitel PIN and press OK
6. Confirm that all details are correct by pressing 1 OK.
7. You will receive a text confirmation of the transaction from Equity Bank.
How do I reverse a token sent to the wrong account number?
If you purchase your tokens from the wrong account, the only way to easily get a refund is to contact KPLC using their various handles and contacts. If you are near their offices, you can give them a visit, but be sure to note that it takes up to 3 working days to get a refund of your tokens

How do you check delayed KPLC tokens online?
If, for one reason, after you have made a token purchase, you haven’t received your tokens yet on SMS, there is no reason to panic. You can either use the KPLC self-service portal or the KPLC app to get your Tokens. Just visit the respective portals, enter your KPLC meter number, and hit search. Immediately after you do so, your last three token purchases will be displayed to you.
