Fuliza is not a new term for Our Lips, especially for most of us Kenyans who continue to rely on M-pesa for various transactions. If you have ever used M-Pesa to pay for various goods and services, then I know you get me, especially when you don’t have enough float to cover your Purchase. While M-Pesa is simply an overdraft service, many tend to confuse it with being a loan service, which it is not. It still attracts some small fees and interest. Therefore, do you know all the Fuliza fees as of 2025?
This guide will explain everything you need to know about M-Pesa Fuliza charges and even how to calculate them, so make sure you read to the end.
What is Fuliza?
In Simple terms, for those who might not understand what Fuliza M-Pesa is, it is an overdraft service, meaning that it steps up to cover your transaction when you don’t have enough cash in your wallet. It was launched in 2019 as a result of a partnership between the NCBA and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), provides the cash to keep this service running, and it is hosted on M-Pesa
Membership to Fuiza is open to all Kenyans who use a Safaricom number actively registered on M-Pesa. To be eligible, your number should have been used for more than six months, especially in carrying out M-Pesa reactions, such as withdrawal, ATM, etc.
Fuliza Charges
When it comes to managing your finances online, you should always aim to utilize every opportunity available so that you can save cash. While Fuliza itself is not a loan service, you should know that registering and using the service itself has some charges.
For example, once you register for Fuliza, you will be charged a 1% access fee, and on top of that, there is a daily maintenance fee available at different rates, mainly influenced by the amount assigned to your M-Pesa account, and is charged every next day at Midnight as shown in their table below
Band | Tariff | 20% Excise Duty |
0 -100 | KSh 0 | KSh 0 |
101-500 | KSh 2.5 | KSh 0.5 |
501-1000 | KSh 5 | KSh 1 |
1001-1500 | KSh 18 | KSh 3.6 |
1501-2500 | KSh 20 | KSh 4 |
2501-70000 | KSh 25 | KSh 5 |
It is important to note that if you fail to repay your Fuliza amount within 30 days, you will be charged a 20% excise duty on top of your access fees. The maximum amount of Fuliza that one can get is Ksh 70,000.
How to Calculate Fuliza Repayments
The process of repaying your Fuliza Amount is done automatically so long as you have enough money in your account not to cover up the assigned amount. The calculation of M-Pesa Fuliza repayment considers two factors we have already discussed in the blog: Access and Daily Maintenance Fees.
To calculate your total Fuliza repayment, use the formula below:
Total Fuliza Repayment = Fuliza Amount + Access Fee + Daily Maintenance Fee
To Put it into practice, let us say your Fuliza Limit is KSh 1,200, and the duration you took to pray it back was after 2 days. The access would be 1% of KSh 1,200, which is KSh 12, and from the table above in the article, since your Ksh 1200 falls within the 1001-1500 band with a tariff of Ksh, then the daily fee would be KSh 18 x 2, which gives Ksh 36. Therefore, when you add everything, the amount that you pay back is Ksh 1248.
Wrapping- Up
We now hope that it doesn’t sound confusing at all especially when it comes to understanding how much you will be paying for your Fuliza Amount.
