Gone are the days when we personally visited various government ministries to get help with various needs. Surprisingly enough, this is not the case today. The government of Kenya has worked tirelessly to consolidate its ministries under one platform, dubbed the e-Citizen Portal. Whether you need to check the Validity of your NTSA driving license or even apply for a new Passport online, all this is possible with the e-Citizen. And this is just the tip of the iceberg: you can access all other services that previously cost you time and money without spending much. So, do you know how the e-Citizen platform works? And what are the ministries on the e-Citizen portal?

If you are new to using the e-Citizen platform or this is your first time encountering it, don’t worry. This comprehensive guide is the answer to all your questions. We will walk you through the registration process and all the services on this platform.

What is eCitizen?

By now, it is clear that the eCitizen portal is the kenyan Goverment Portal that all Kenyan citizens can access. It was launched in 2014 and officially revamped on June 2023 to become the official portal consolidating various government services. The portal is managed by the ICT Authority of Kenya(IDA), and the only way to access this platform is through a web portal via accounts.ecitizen.go.ke.

How To Register on the New eCitizen Portal

Like most organized company portals, the only way to access all that the eCitizen portal has to offer is to register. Creating your account is a straightforward process you can easily do without needing assistance from any IT technician. Here is how:

Requirements

To have a valid account with the Portal, you must ensure that you meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Own a gadget ( Smartphone, Laptop) that can access the internet
  • Stable internet connection
  • An Email address and a Phone number that are both working
  • The following Identification numbers are mandatory:
    • For Kenyan Citizens, a National ID is required
    • Foreign residents, your Alien ID
    • Refugees must have a Refugee ID number
    • Diplomats to have Diplomats ID
    • Foreigners to Kenya to have Passport Number

Account Creation

If you meet the requirements, the account creation process will be smoother. But then you should know that the eCitizen portal has up to 5 accounts that one can create. These accounts are for Kenyan citizens, Foreigners, Refugees, Diplomats, and Visitors to Kenya.

For Kenyan Citizens, here is how you can easily create your account:

  • Visit the official website accessible at https://accounts.ecitizen.go.ke/en/
  • Once the website opens on the top navigational bar, look for the Register button, market on the Green button, and click on it.
  • Proceed to select account type for Kenyan Citizens
  • Next, start filling out the Registration form correctly. This stage will require you to enter your national ID number, name, and contact password and upload your photo.
  • When you Enter your contacts, you must validate your phone number. An OTP verification will be sent to your phone number. Enter it and proceed to the next steps. The same is also required for email Verification
