Utah is the 45th state of the United States. It became so after being admitted to the union on January 4, 1896. It was also part of the Utah Territory, formed on September 9, 1850. However, its long history has evolved over the years and given birth to new territories today, such as Nevada and Colorado.
Today, as of the writing, the Utah territory has 29 counties and 253 municipalities, which include cities (population over 1,000) or towns (under 1,000 residents). In addition, cities are further classified by population size into large (over 90,000), medium (15,000–90,000), and small (under 15,000), with different government structures, which seen even more different by elected mayors who represent larger cities and trustees or presidents representing smaller cities.
